It's been 5 years since I contracted Valley Fever. Back in 2021, we published Cocci Chronicles to better inform the community about this infectious disease that occurs primarily in Arizona and Central Valley, CA. That five-part series included the following individual blogs:

I-Introduction

II-Airborne Fungus

III-Symptoms & Diagnosis

IV-Treatment

V-Summary & Future

The latest data from Maricopa County Department of Public Health (see chart below) indicates that the incidence of Valley Fever is on the rise. Sadly, this same type of data is not readily availiable from Pima County but we can assume there is a similar trend.

I have also been contacted in the last few months by some TA members that have been infected and I was able to answer many of their questions.

Seems like it is a good time to re-publish Cocci Chronicles because many new residents have moved to Pima County over the last five years and may not be aware of Valley Fever.

As a community service, Cocci Chronicles Five Part Series will be re-published with one blog/section published per week over the next five weeks. The blogs will be in their original form---so please realize that some data may be dated but the majority of the information still applies.
