The Tortolita Fire is reported at 540 acres. Crews are conducting back burning and building fire lines. The fire is located 4-6 miles northeast of the confluence of the Wild Mustang Trail and Will Burro Trail. See maps below.
Shirley and I hiked the Tortolita Preserve this morning. Appears Tortolita Fire may be getting under control as not much smoke on trail or seen from TP this morning (6-7:30 AM).
The smoke is much more visible over the Tortolita’s (2:20PM Sun) than it was at noon.
I'm not down there right now, but my neighbor in Cochie Canyon tells me the fire has come over the ridge and is now visible from the Canyon and that he is evacuating.
