TA Strategic Plan & Fundraiser Update

Tortolita Alliance (TA) had a nice conversation with Wayne Barnett [Marana Parks & Recreation (MPR) Director] on 4/8/26. We discussed some of the key TA Strategic Plan items, with this important update:

• Tortolita Preserve (TP) Convert Barbed Wire Fence (north side) With Wildlife Friendly Wire-MPR will do conversions in conjunction with other projects on the north side.

• TP Trail Expansion-MPR has proposed $70,000 in the FY 26/27 Budget (starts July 2026), for designing and constructing new trails in the western portion of TP! TA will be able to provide input on trail design.

• MPR Master Plan Update-MPR has engaged Kimley Horne as the planning consultant and will be working on setting up the public outreach sessions in the next month. TA will be provided the opportunity to give input.

2026 Fundraiser

The 2026 Fundraiser is complete with $5,400 raised. TA has approximately $7,000 in the bank account which is enough to cover our $3,500 yearly expenses for 2026 and 2027.
