TA Tidbits #24 Julio & More

Updated: Jul 11, 2021

Hiked the Wild Burro Trail very early this morning and ran into Julio the Gila Monster. Click on the video below to see him moving out!

Tortolita Preserve (TP) Natural Resource Survey

TA will meet with Marana Parks & Recreation (MPR) on 7/20/21 to work out the details of the proposed TP Natural Resource Survey to be performed by TA citizen scientists. The survey will identify and catalogue plants, animals and other resources throughout the entire 2,400 ares.

TP Trail Counter

TA solicited proposals from 3 vendors to purchase TP trail counter. Prices ranged from $1,000 to $4,000. This is beyond our budget so TA and MPR have worked out a tentative agreement for TA to contribute $500 to MPR and they would provide the additional funds required. MPR would own the trail counter and it would be portable and could be used at other trail locations. More to come.

Tucson Water Rate Increase Unincorporated Areas

Despite huge opposition, Tucson Water actually approved a 10% rate hike for its customers in Pima County unincorporated areas. This does not affect Tucson Water customers within Marana. However, this differential rate now sets a precedence and we need to be vigilant so that Tucson Water customers in Marana never get socked with a differential rate.
