TP BioBlitz Sign-Up



A BioBlitz is an event to inventory as many species as possible in a specific area during a specific time frame.


Using the smartphone app iNaturalist, community members can collect high quality data by snapping pictures of wildlife and plants and having those observations verified by others.


A BioBlitz is also an opportuinty for participants to learn about plants and wildlife, gain data collection skills, and build a stronger connection to the environment.


 

When: Saturday, November 19, 2022, 7:00 AM to 12 noon


Where: Tortolita Preserve-Moore Road Trailhead


Directions: From Tangerine Road, take Dove Mountain Blvd north to Moore Road, left at traffic light and follow Moore Road, go past the round-about and STEM School and parking will be available near Tortolita Preserve Entrance gate


Suggestions: Hiking/work boots, long pants, long-sleeved shirts, sun hats, sunglasses. You may need a light jacket.


Bring: 2 liters of water, snack and cell phone with iNaturalist App installed (see tutorial information below)


Supplied: huge variety of plants and wildlife!


BioBlitz Partners: Marana Parks & Recreation (lead), Tortolita Alliance, Pima Naturalists, Coalition For Sonoran Desert Protection and Arizona Game and Fish.


How To Sign Up:

  1. Go To Marana Parks & Recreation Program Registration Site

  2. New User-Create Account or Existing User-Sign In

  3. Once Signed-in, click on Activities In the Black Ribbon (top of page) and a pull down menu appears, then click on Outdoor Programs

  4. A list of Outdoor Programs appears and scroll down to Tortolita Preserve BioBlitz. Pick one of the nine BioBlitz guided hikes or Go On Your Own option and click on Enroll Now (see schedule of hikes below). Click on the i-information button to learn more about each hike and get link to iNaturalist App.

  5. In the next screen, select the participant(s), then click Add To Cart. There is no cost to attend this event.

  6. In the next screen, check the Waiver Box and click Finish and you are signed-up!

  7. There will be an iNaturalist Introductory Tutorial via Zoom on Thursday, November 17 from 6-7pm. Click on the Zoom Link below to attend:
